When I first began teaching, personal computers were a rarity, the Internet was there but not really utilized, and wireless phones were the closest technology to the cell phone. In the last 20+ years, standard textbooks with pencil and paper just aren't the norm any longer. In this class I am hoping to further my tehnological skills. I feel like the proverbial "fish out of water" when trying to keep up with all the latest technology (software and hardware).
I have just begun utilizing Moodle at my school district this past Spring. I am now trying blended/flipped class learning for my students. My goal is to learn how to incorporate the technologies/information learned in this class to become a more effective 21st century teacher.
I will be very interested to see how you developed your quizzes on moodle and whether it is practical to generate Math ones with the proper symbols and formatting.
ReplyDeleteTodd has a good point on the time it will take to generate quizzes/tests in moodle. Do you have similar issues in putting thing in Spanish?...or haven't you attempted this yet since you are just first starting to use it?
ReplyDeleteMy main concern is still the wide gap that exists between our students who have technology and those who do not have technology. I wish there was a good solution for this.
Bob and Todd, I absolutely LOVE the quiz option in Moodle. Is there a learning curve? YES! Does it take time to write a good test? YES! But what's awesome is that once I've written the questions (they are organized in categories), I can create multiple quizzes and randomize the questions so that it's a different quiz every time. When Spanish 4 students request that I create a practice quiz to better learn the material, I knew I was onto something wonderful! :-)
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is using Skyward as a grading system, it has a quiz option that is much easier than Moodle for me. I used to make quizzes on Moodle for my classes, but now use the Skyward option. I use it mostly for AP Chemistry where 50% of the test is multiple choice, and there are lots of easily transferable questions out there. Easier to control the time period for those quizzes also.
